Are You Pooping the Wrong Way? (Most People Are!)

Did you know there’s a proper pooping position that supports gut health—and most people in Western culture are NOT doing it?

It’s true! While many cultures around the world squat when they poop, the Western world has adopted the sitting upright position on modern toilets. And guess what? This is NOT ideal for full bowel evacuation.

Let’s talk about why your pooping position matters—and the simple fix that can make your bathroom visits way more effective and comfortable!

Meet the Muscle That Keeps You From Pooping Your Pants

💡 Fun fact: Your body has a built-in safety mechanism to prevent accidents when you’re walking, running, or just living your life.

This superhero is called the puborectalis muscle, and it works alongside your external sphincter to keep things in place until you’re ready to go.

🙌 Can we just take a moment to thank the Good Lord for these muscles?

But here’s the problem…

When you sit upright on a toilet, the puborectalis muscle is still partially engaged, choking off your rectum and making it harder to fully empty your bowels.

This can lead to:

🚫 Constipation

🚫 Straining

🚫 Excessive gas & bloating

🚫 Hemorrhoids

🚫 Bacterial overgrowth from retained stool

💩 The solution? Change your pooping posture!

The Best Position for a Healthy Poop

To fully relax the puborectalis muscle and allow for easier, more complete evacuation, you need to be in a more squat-like position when using the toilet.

✔ Enter: The Squatty Potty!

This simple tool raises your feet, mimicking a squatting position while you’re still on the toilet. The result? Less straining, easier elimination, and better gut health.

✔ Different Options Available:

  • Standard Squatty Potty: Comes in two different heights for comfort.
  • Travel Squatty Potty: A foldable version so you can poop properly anywhere!

No Squatty Potty? No Problem!

Don’t want to buy another bathroom gadget? You can DIY it!

💡 Try these alternatives to raise your feet:

✔ A step stool

✔ Paint cans (seriously, they work!)

✔ A sturdy trash can (Bonus: It still functions as a trash can! This is what I do!)

The key is to elevate your feet and put your body in a more natural squatting position—your gut will thank you!

Final Thoughts: Poop Smarter, Not Harder

This tiny shift in how you position yourself on the toilet can make a huge difference in how well your body eliminates waste.

🚽 No more unnecessary straining.

🚽 Better bowel movements.

🚽 Improved gut health.

📌 Try this out for a week and let me know if you notice a difference!
